Plans to build a $100m rail freight facility in Bathurst, Australia, have been proposed to the government of New South Wales.
The application was submitted by Gateway Land Corporation just weeks after the closure of Patrick's intermodal terminal in the region.
The proposed terminal will be built at the site of the Great Western Highway to the east at Kelso and will transport freight to the Sydney markets and Port Botany.
The terminal would accommodate 600m-long trains with a "run-around" track to facilitate quicker turnaround times and would cater for on-site customs, grain silos, fuel storage and maintenance.
The site would also house 50,000m² of warehousing facilities with hardstand and direct rail loading access.
The developer expects to receive government approval shortly and the intermodal facility is expected to open by the end of 2010.
