Iranian Military Guard Wins Rail Deal

13 November 2009

Iran's Khatam-ol Anbiya Construction Headquarters has won a $2.5bn tender to build a rail network in the Chabahar Free Zone in the southeastern part of the country.

The main contracting arm of the Islamic Republic of Iran Guard Corps, Khatam-ol-Anbia, will build the rail route linking the south-eastern port of Chabahar with the country's rail network.

The line is part of the freight transit route from Chabahar to the north-eastern border town of Sarakhs.

The project will be carried out in three phases and is aimed at increasing the route's annual capacity to 20 million tonnes.

The Revolutionary Guards (Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution) is a branch of Iran's military.
