Strabag-Led Team to Build New Vienna Station

06 November 2009

A consortium led by Austrian firm Strabag has won a €220m contract to build the new Vienna Central Station.

The 20,000m² railway station will feature a glass-and-steel roof, space for 100 shops and restaurants, and a car park beneath the platforms, with space for over 600 cars.

Work includes demolishing the existing Südbahnhof station.

Construction will begin before the end of November 2009 and finish in 2015, with a section of the station expected to enter service into 2013.

The contract has been awarded by ÖBB Infrastructure Group with Strabag holding a 30% stake.
