Israeli Firm to Deploy First Softswitch Communication in India

26 October 2009

Indian rail operator South Central Railway (SCR) has signed Israeli firm Tadiran Telecom to provide its Softswitch communication system over a 200km network covering 85 stations.

The new system will be the first ever installation of the Softswitch solution in India and is part of SCR's plans to upgrade the communications system over its entire network.

The system includes a group of three IP-based Sea Softswitch servers located in three geographically dispersed sites, to provide redundancy and fault tolerance for the other servers.

The system also uses the company's FlexiCom 5000, which acts as the main hub for trunks and connects to the other IP systems, ten IPx 500 units deployed at larger stations, and FXS/SIP boxes located in the smaller stations.

The project has finished with its final phase of installation and is in the deployment stage.
