South Africa Chooses Israeli Fare System

23 October 2009

Israeli company On Track Innovations (OTI) will supply smart card readers to enable a contactless fare system on South African rail transport.

The order has been placed by South African company DigiCore to integrate its C-track-based fare validators with OTI's Saturn 6500 readers.

The reloadable and EMV-compliant pre-paid cards will allow passengers to use contactless transactions in accordance with the rules of card associations and the South African National Department of Transport.

OTI will initially supply 4,000 readers for use on the country's rail and bus networks, with an option for more readers in the future.
