Norwegian Firm to Upgrade Nigerian Railway's Radios

19 October 2009

The Nigerian Railway Corporation has signed up Norwegian firm Eltek's US subsidiary Nera Networks to upgrade the radio communication along a 1,200km railway.

The new system will cover the rail network between Warri, southern Nigeria and Madugli, northeastern Nigeria.

The company will deliver Evolution Series XPAND IP microwave radios for a total of 72 hops under the $6m contract.

The system's delivery and installation is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2010.

The majority of the sites will have solar power as the primary power source, the company said.
