US High-Speed Rail Grant Deadline Extended

15 October 2009

The US Government has extended the date to award grants for high-speed rail proposals.

Grants were initially expected to be awarded in October, but the date has now been pushed back until the US winter due to an overwhelming response.

The postponement is due to the high number of rail applications submitted by states competing for the available $8bn economic stimulus package that was approved in February.

Overall, the government has received 45 applications totalling nearly $50bn from 24 states nationwide.
