Mozambique is planning to build a new $11bn rail network to link the whole of the country by 2023.

The plan involves building 2,000km of rail lines to connect its provinces.

The plan includes $5bn for rail line construction and $6 billion for related road infrastructure.

The 14-year project is set for execution from 2009 onwards.

The plan, part of the Strategy for Integrated Development of the Transport System, won the Council of Ministers' approval in May.
