Nexans to Supply Railway Cables for Istanbul Rail Line

12 October 2009

French firm Nexans is to supply 1,350km of specialised railway cables to Alstom for installation on the Turkish city of Istanbul's Marmaray trans-Bosphorus rail line.

The €3.3m contract includes the manufacture and supply of signalling cables such as the ZPAU, digicode and eurobalise as well as low-voltage power cables K25.

The 76.3km rail line connects Halkali on the European bank of the Bosphorus to the suburb of Gebze to Istanbul's urban transport network and is scheduled to enter service in 2013.

The project's phase 2 is being carried out by a consortium led by Alstom, which as the team leader, is handling the project coordination and general engineering, track installation and electrification and signalling.

Manufacture of the cables will begin shortly and finish by the end of 2010. The installation is scheduled for 2010–11.
