Translink Launches N Ireland's First Smartcard

09 October 2009

Northern Ireland's public transport operator Translink has launched the country's first integrated commercial Smartcard on its rail services.

The card, iLink, can be topped up for unlimited day, weekly or monthly travel on Northern Ireland Railways.

The card can be purchased for the rail service within three specified zones in Northern Ireland.

According to the operator, the iLink, which can also be used on the operator's bus services, will allow for convenient, safer and cash-free travel for passengers, particularly regular users.

New platform validators have been placed at key rail stations including Belfast Central, Gt Victoria Street, Botanic, Bangor, Carrickfergus and Lisburn.
