IBM Software to Manage BART Operations

09 October 2009

IBM will provide the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) in the US with software services to manage trains, stations, equipment and operations.

The new software will support the operator's project to modernise and expand its existing infrastructure.

The software will be used to manage purchasing, inventory and maintenance systems, to allow operators to know the condition and location of all of its assets.

The software will also be used to conduct analysis and schedule maintenance before a part or system fails as well as help BART choose the right parts and eliminate the ones not in use.

BART operates the rail system connecting San Francisco to cities in the East Bay and suburbs in northern San Mateo County, catering to nearly 346,000 passengers daily.
