India is planning to build two new railway networks to connect to Bhutan and Nepal.
The survey for the networks has been conducted and the reports have been sent to the railway ministry for approval.
The rail network plan to link Bhutan includes building an Rs753 crore 51.15km track from Assam's Pathshala to Bhutan's Nanglam, an Rs302 crore 57.7km track from Assam's Kokrajhar to Gelephu and an Rs2.8 crore 17.4km track from West Bengal's Hasimara to Phuentsholing.
The plan to link Nepal includes building a 16km track from Bengal's Naxalbari to Kankarvitta and a 15km track from Bihar's Jogbani to Biratnagar.
Work is expected to begin once the plans are approved and will be carried out by the Indian rail operator Northeast Frontier Railway.
