Siemens and Bombardier to Supply 20 Trains to Austria

30 September 2009

A consortium made up of Siemens and Bombardier has won a €191m contract to supply 20 subway trains to Austria.

The contract, awarded by Vienna public transport operator Wiener Linien, follows a 1998 agreement to supply a total of 60 similar trains, 40 of which have already been delivered.

Siemens, with a share of €153m in the deal, will build the car bodies, interior furnishings and part of the electrical equipment, as well as providing the train engineering.

Bombardier's €38m share includes supply of the air-conditioning units.

The trains can feed over a third of their braking energy back into the power system and are up to 90% recyclable.
