GE Delivers Evolution Series Locomotive to Mongolia

29 September 2009

Mongolian Railways has received its first Evolution Series locomotive from GE Transportation.

The locomotive will be leased by the railway company to the country's Ulaanbaatar Railway, which connects Mongolia with Europe, East Asia and South East Asia.

The engine uses AC locomotive technology as opposed to conventional DC technology for higher pulling capability and less wheel slippage.

The locomotive has dynamic brakes in addition to air brakes to reduce wheel and brake shoe wear by 20–40%.
