CN Completes Memphis Yard Renovation

29 September 2009

The Canadian National Railway (CN) has finished the $100m overhaul of its freight car switching yard in Southwest Memphis.

The 433-acre facility, which mainly caters to freight traffic for the Gulf region, has been renovated to handle double the capacity of the old yard.

The facility can now accommodate over 3,100 freight cars on 45 tracks with 35 freight trains daily.

The project included constructing a new rail yard, improving the locomotive fuelling station, renovating the old locomotive repair and car shops and various technology enhancements.

The yard, previously known as Johnston Yard, has now been renamed Harrison Yard after its CEO, who is due to retire at the end of 2009.
