Bombardier Wins €129m Tram-Train Order

Canadian firm Bombardier has won a contract worth approximately €129m from the German city of Karlsruhe to supply 30 dual-system tram-trains.

The contract, awarded by Albtal Transport Company AVG (Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft) and Karlsruhe Transport Authority VBK (Verkehrsbetriebe Karlsruhe), includes an option for another 45 vehicles.

The 37m-long and 2.65m-wide light rail vehicles are 50% low-floor and can carry 244 passengers.

The vehicles have three modules and the interior is walkable throughout its entire length.

The vehicles are scheduled for delivery between August 2011 and September 2013.
