A consortium led by French firm Alstom has won a €91m contract from the Indian city of Bangalore to supply a train control system for its metro lines 1 and 2.
The consortium includes Thales Security Solutions and Services and Sumitomo Corporation. Alstom's share in the contract totals €57m.
The team will provide signalling for two corridors, which include a 17.9km 18-station north-south line and an 18.1km 17-station east-west line. The scope of work includes two depots and one operation control centre (OCC).
Alstom will provide the design, manufacture, supply, installing, testing and commissioning of the train control and signalling system, including the Urbalis 200 Automatic Train Control system.
The contract has the option for an additional 5.7km for six stations and one back-up OCC.
The two metro lines are scheduled to begin operations in September 2012 and are expected to carry 40,000 passengers per hour and per direction.
