State-owned Danish railway operator Banedanmark has awarded a 12-year consultancy contract to a joint venture of US firm Parsons, UK firm Atkins, Swiss firm Emch+Berger and Danish firm Rambøll to upgrade and modernise Denmark's rail network by 2021.
The team will be responsible for tender preparation, supplier oversight, contract negotiation, implementation of an early deployment scheme and supplying a communication-based train control system on the capital city Copenhagen's commuter network.
The team will also equip the entire Danish mainline rail network with a European Rail Traffic Management System for full interoperability and integration of automatic traffic management in a few centres for the whole country.
The contract is part of the operator's government-funded €3.2bn Denmark signalling programme to upgrade technology on the signalling system over 3,200km of track as well as on 560 trainsets and locomotives.
