Deutsche Bahn Places $131m Train Order with Bombardier

Canadian company Bombardier has won a €90m ($131m) contract from German rail operator Deutsche Bahn (DB) to supply 22 Talent 2 electric trains.

The fleet will include 16 four-car and six three-car trains of the class BR 442, which can reach speeds of up to 160kmph.

The trains will be used in the state of Hesse as Central Hesse Express trains for regional express and regional services from December 2011 onwards.

The trains will operate on the rail lines between Frankfurt/Main-Gießen–Treysa/Dillenburg as well as between Hanau-Frankfurt-Gießen.

With the new order, the total number of Bombardier vehicles ordered by DB comes to 120 as part of a deal signed in 2007 for up to 321 trains.
