Cameroon Enlists Korean Consortium to Develop National Rail Plan

The Republic of Cameroon has enlisted a South Korean consortium to chart out a National Master Plan for its rail network expansion.
The 13-month and nearly CFA761m ($1.7m) contract has been signed between Cameroon's Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT) and Korea Port Engineering, Chung-Suk Engineering, the Korea Transport Institute and Korea Rail Network Authority.
The plan envisages a rail network to link local and neighbouring exporters of commodities to key port routes to boost the trade of mining, cocoa and coffee.
The plan includes modernising the country's passenger network and is part of the government's agenda to raise the rail system to international standards by 2035.
The project will involve doubling the existing Douala-Yaounde-Ngaoundere track to improve the bauxite and alumina trade.
