Alstom Delivers First Citadis Tram to Turkey

08 September 2009

French firm Alstom has delivered the first of 37 Citadis trams to the Turkish city of Istanbul.

The tram uses the company's new Ixege bogies technology for the first time which enables it to run on any type of track.

The tram operates in linked double units and can accommodate 500 passengers and can reach speeds of up to 70kmph.

The tram will undergo testing by the city's urban transport operator Ulasim.

The new trams, expected to be delivered by mid-2010, will replace the high-floor tramsets in use on the Zeytinburnu-Bagcilar line in the city.

The trams will also be used on the Zeytinburnu-Kabatas line to operate alongside the existing low-floor tramsets.
