The US state of Minnesota's first commuter rail service, Northstar, will open on 16 November, the Metropolitan Council has announced.
The $317m project has been under planning and development for more than 12 years.
The 40-mile rail line will connect Big Lake and downtown Minneapolis and will have stops at Fridley, Coon Rapids, Anoka, Elk River and Big Lake.
Each train on the line will feature a locomotive and four passenger cars, with each passenger car accommodating around 140 people.
The stations will feature park-and-ride facilities and platforms and will have cameras, emergency telephones, enclosed shelters and heating.
The project has been carried out by the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
