Myanmar has received 225 railway carriages from China as part of a deal agreed in 2008.

The fleet will be used on Myanmar's 6,942km of rail tracks, includes 200 freight coaches, 20 passenger coaches and five engines.

The carriages were offered by China during the fifth China-ASEAN Expo and China-ASEAN Economic and Investment Summit in October 2008.

This is the second time China has presented rail carriages to Myanmar. 130 passenger coaches were given in 2006, the director-general of Myanmar Railways said.
