India is set to have its first high-speed ballastless tracks as part of the ongoing metro rail project in capital city New Delhi.
The track technology, RHEDA 2000, has been developed in the country in collaboration with German firm RailOne AG.
The tracks will be laid on the 22.7km Airport Metro Express Line linking Connaught Place and IGI Airport in the city.
The tracks will allow train speeds of up to 160kmph and feature long lifecycles, good load-carrying capability and low maintenance.
The design, manufacturing, supply and supervision of the laying of the tracks will be carried out by the Indian firm Patil Rail Infrastructure.
Work is expected to finish by February 2010, ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held in the city.
