Westcode to Supply Power to Run London Trains

21 August 2009

IXYS' UK subsidiary Westcode Semiconductors is to supply power semiconductor assemblies for London's ground side sub-stations to power trains.

The 2–3MW power semiconductor assemblies will act as the bridge rectifiers that convert grid power to be used by rolling stock.

The contract to Westcode is part of the city's plans to upgrade the electrical power system on its network to run 1,700 new train cars it plans to add to its network by 2012, ahead of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
