The ongoing restoration work of the 650km Sena railway track in the African country of Mozambique is expected to be complete in September this year, officials say.
The reconstruction of the line, which was destroyed during the country's civil war, is being carried out by the Ricon consortium involving Indian companies Rites and Ircon.
Once operational the line will be used to transfer coal from Moatize to the port of Beira with 18 million tonnes of cargo expected to be transported every year.
The line will also serve to transport sugar from the Marromeu and Mafambisse factories and cement from the Dondo factory.
The country's ports and railways authority Portos e Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique has invested $275m in the project, out of which 60% comes from the World Bank.
