FGC Trains Equipped With New Broadband Technology

19 August 2009

Spain's Catalan regional rail operator FGC has equipped its trains with broadband links to provide its control centre with live information from onboard systems.

The broadband system will provide transmission of live security camera images and diagnostic data, multimedia passenger information and Wi-Fi access.

By activating an alarm, staff in the control room can view the images of the camera closest to the incident from among the many live images from onboard cameras.

The system is aimed at enhancing safety as the security staff can now react to incidents faster.

The €2.6m system has been developed by the operator along with Alstom over a two-year period.

The 16MB system has been installed on 64 trainsets on a 14km Barcelona to Terrassa and Manresa rail network.
