Network Rail to Trial Modular Signalling System

12 August 2009

UK rail operator Network Rail is to trial a modular signalling system on the Crewe-Shrewsbury pilot line in 2010.

Using the modular system, any signalling scheme can be operated from a small range of core components, which reduces the capital and operational expenditure of the system.

The modular system also allows revisiting of the signalling systems at any time, to make minor changes in a more cost-effective manner.

The system has been developed by Invensys Rail subsidiary Westinghouse Rail Systems under a contract extended until May 2010.
