Ireland has reopened its Midleton-Cork rail line after 46 years, following a €75m refurbishment.
The line will allow passengers to reach Midleton from Cork in about 24 minutes using 21 trains which will run each way between the two cities.
The trains will stop at the new stations at Midleton, Carrigtwohill, Glounthaune, Little Island and Kent Station Cork.
The two-carriage 320-capacity trains will provide a service every 30 minutes at peak times and every hour at off-peak times.
The renovation work on the line has been funded by the government under the Transport 21 programme, part of the National Development Plan 2007–2013.
The upgrade involved track work on the previously disused Glounthaune to Midleton line, installing a new signalling system, and building new stations, car parking and bridges.
