Siemens Wins €320m Russian Contract to Supply Rail Coaches

03 August 2009

Siemens, along with Russia's Tverskoy Vagonostroitelny Zavod AG (TVZ), has been selected to supply 200 modern sleeping cars to Russian Railways (RZD).

Siemens' share of the contract is €320m.

The coaches comply with International Coach Regulations and are interchangeable for standard and broad-gauge networks.

Under the contract Siemens will supply TVZ with the standard-gauge bogies, including their interior components.

TVZ will build the bogies to run on the Russian broad gauge as well as the bodyshells for series operation.

The vehicles suit RZD's cross-border service and can be deployed on Central and Western European rail networks.

Manufacturing of the coaches is expected to start in 2010.
