UK operator Network Rail is planning to build a rail and tram interchange at Gogar in west Edinburgh, Scotland.
The Gogar Rail Interchange project involves building a new railway station on the Edinburgh to Fife railway line in the Gogar area.
The station will be built on two levels and will take passengers up to the ticket office and concourse at first-floor level through a lift, staircase and escalators.
The project will be funded from a £1bn grant provided by Transport Scotland as part of the Edinburgh-Glasgow rail network.
Scottish Government Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson said the new station at Gogar would improve public transport access to Edinburgh Airport and West Edinburgh.
The project is a low-cost alternative to the previously proposed £600m Edinburgh Airport Rail Link project. Work is expected to be complete by late 2011.
