Australian group Leighton Contractors has won an A$152m contract from Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) to undertake civil and track work on the Hunter Valley rail corridor.
Work aimed at increasing coal carrying capacity on the corridor will be carried out from Singleton to Muswellbrook (Upper Hunter 1) line and Muswellbrook to Werris Creek (Upper Hunter 2) line.
Major works include laying 8km of track at Nundah Bank, revamping the Drayton Junction and reinstating Werris Creek Bypass.
In addition, Scone Yard will be reconfigured with new passing loops at Braefield, Quipolly, Quirindi Wingen and Koolbury, and the existing Parkville and Murrurundi passing loops will be extended.
The project will result in better connectivity between the Gunnedah Basin and the Newcastle ports allowing faster and efficient delivery of coal.
Leighton Contractors will work with its sub-alliance partners Parsons Brinckerhoff, Coffey Geotechnics and KMH Environmental.
