New Delhi to have 26 New Rail Bridges Before Commonwealth Games

Indian rail operator Northern Railway says it plans to build 21 rail bridges in and around the capital of New Delhi in its biggest project yet, ahead of the Commonwealth Games in 2010.

Under the plan, costing about $93m, the rail operator will build road over bridges and road under bridges at all important level crossings in the National Capital Region.

The Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation will construct an extra five bridges.

The locations identified for bridge construction include Barapullah Nallah, near Anand Vihar ISBT, Apsara Border, Lajpat Nagar, Vivek Vihar, New Azadpur, Mangolpuri and Minto Bridge, with extensions planned for Delhi Airport to the Najafgarh drain and Salimgarh Fort to Vellodrome Road.
