Talgo Signs $47m Deal With US State for New Trains

21 July 2009

The US State of Wisconsin has placed a $47m order with Spanish train manufacturer Talgo to supply two 14-car passenger trains to run on the Milwaukee-Chicago line.

The new trains would accommodate 420 people as opposed to the rail line's existing 350-capacity trains. The trains' speed will remain unchanged at 79mph.

The fleet is expected to enter service by 2011.

Under the deal, the state can order two more trains in the future if it wins a share in the government's federal stimulus grant for railways.
