Philippines Grand Terminal Project gets NEDA Approval

20 July 2009

The Philippines' National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) has given the go-ahead for capital city Manila's P777.60m (approximately $16m) Metro Manila Integrated Rail Terminal (MMIRT) project.

The terminal will link the city's three mass rail transits (MRT) – MRT 3 (Taft Avenue-North Avenue line), Light Rail Transit (LRT) 1 (Monumento-Baclaran line) and the proposed MRT 7 (Commonwealth Avenue-Bulacan line). The terminal will be built in front of SM North EDSA Annex.

The work includes the alignment of MRT 3, shortening of LRT 1 North Extension guide way and renovation of MRT 7 EDSA North Avenue station. The existing MRT 3-LRT 1 loop may be closed.

The common terminal will allow commuters to change transit lines easily.

The work is expected to be complete in May 2010 and open for public use in August 2010.
