Indonesia Launches Biggest-Ever Train Order

20 July 2009

State-owned Indonesian railway operator PT Kereta Api (PTKA) has placed an order for 20 C20-EMP locomotives with US company GE Transportation, the largest single vehicle order in Indonesia's history.

GE may lease a further 150 locomotives, under an agreement between the two companies to cater for further growth in the country's steadily growing rail industry.

The vehicles will feature an over 2,000-horsepower engine and a Brightstar control system.

The 20 locomotive kits will be built at GE Transportation and final assembly will be completed by Indonesian company PT INKA.

The delivery of the vehicles is scheduled for 2010 and 2011.
