French state railway operator SNCF is to open a tender to order 35 new-generation TGV high-speed rail cars, worth over $1.4bn, to run on tracks in Germany and France.
The vehicles will be put into service in 2015–2016.
The tender is a step towards preparations for the opening of a European rail passenger service in 2010.
