Bombardier Wins $255m Contract to Build Phoenix SkyTrain

The US city of Phoenix has awarded a $255m contract to Bombardier Transportation to build and maintain a SkyTrain at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

Bombardier will supply its driverless transit system known as the INNOVIA automated people mover to the airport.

The first $186m part of the contract includes the SkyTrain's design and supply of the system-wide electrical and mechanical equipment and of the operations and maintenance and storage facility.

The remaining $69m is for operation and maintenance services over ten years.

The company will also supply 18 driverless vehicles, 650 automatic train control, power supply and distribution and communications systems under the contract.

The first 3.5km stage of the SkyTrain is scheduled for completion in 2012.
