Nortel to Provide Czech Railways with GSM-R Network

14 July 2009

Czech Railways has selected Nortel's GSM-R technology for wireless communication along the 207km Czech section of the International Railway Corridor IV between Austria and Poland.

The section consists of a corridor line connecting Austria to Poland, from Breclav to Prerov in the Czech Republic to Petrovice u KarvinГ© on Poland's border.

Nortel will provide its Base Transceiver Station 9000 and 6000 products, Base Station Controller 3000 and Trans Coding Unit 3000 for the corridor.

Nortel's technology will also help increase network interoperability and support new voice applications running over the GSM-R network such as railway emergency and group conference calls, the company said.

The line's existing switching subsystem will be extended and Nortel's intelligent network and GPRS packet core solution will be upgraded. Three additional repeater stations will also be created.

The network will be supplied and deployed by Nortel partner Kapsch CarrierCom.
