10 July 2009

The infrastructure Ministry of the Brazilian State of Ceará (SEINFRA) has awarded Italy-based AnsaldoBreda an €86m contract to supply 20 trains for its capital Fortaleza’s Metro project.

The trains will run on the 23km metro line connecting the city centre with Maracanaù.

The trains are air conditioned, 40m long, can reach speeds of up to 120km/h and hold a capacity of 445 people.

The company, a Finmeccanica subsidiary, will deliver the trains in time for the opening of the line in 2010, prior to the 2014 Football World Cup scheduled to be held in the city.
