Stadler Winterthur Delivers the First Electric Shunting Locomotive to SBB

09 July 2009

Swiss company Stadler Winterthur has delivered the first electric shunting locomotive, out of the total order of 21 placed in 2007, to Swiss Federal Railways (SBB).

The vehicle known as Ee 922 features dual-frequency and a power rating of 750kW. It can pull a 700t train up a ramp with a gradient of 0.6%. The vehicle is also the first electrical locomotive to be manufactured completely by Stadler Winterthur.

The remaining 20 vehicles, under the SFr40m ($39m) contract, are expected to be delivered by the end of 2010. The vehicles will replace SBB's 40-year-old existing fleet of Ee 3/3 series vehicles at seven stations.
