Heijmans Wins €87.5m Substructure Contract

09 July 2009

The Netherlands' ProRail has awarded infrastructure firm Heijmans an €87.5m contract for the substructure of the track expansion between Utrecht Lunetten and Houten stations, part of Prorail's ongoing Randstadspoor track doubling project.

Heijmans will be responsible for concrete works, earthworks and the construction of new underpasses and overpass junctions between the two stations.

The track expansion work on the Utrecht Lunetten–Houten line involves doubling the tracks from two to four, renovating the existing Lunetten station, building two 'dive-under' underpasses at Waterlinieweg and replacing the existing level crossing at the Fortweg.

In addition, a new traffic viaduct will be built across the A27, converting the existing viaduct ainto a railway viaduct.

The work is expected to be completed between 2010 and 2014.
