Italy Suspends Use of GATX-Made Wagons After Rail Accident

06 July 2009

Following the recent train fire accident, Italy's national railways have decided to suspend the use of wagons designed and built by US company GATX pending the result of ultrasound checks of their axles, the Gulf Times reports.

Italy's national rail network has taken this decision as it believes a structural fault in the wagons was responsible for the accident.

The accident on 29 June 2009 claimed 18 lives and left many critically injured.
