03 July 2009

The Singapore Land Transport Authority has awarded a $378m contract to the Punj Lloyd subsidiary Sembawang Engineers and Constructors to construct two rail stations on its future Downtown Line 2.

The stations will be on the 16.6km line that runs from the Bugis area to Bukit Panjang.

Under the contract, the company will build one station at Botanic Gardens and another at Stevens, as well as 1km twin-bored tunnels linking the stations.

Work will start in the third quarter of 2009 and is expected to be complete in 2015.

The Downtown Line project is part of the nation's plan to expand its rail network.
