Australian Killawarra Passing Loop Upgraded

03 July 2009

The Melbourne-Sydney-Brisbane rail corrider upgrade has moved a step forward with the completion of the Killawarra passing loop renovation.

Funding by the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) and the Rudd Labor Government's Economic Stimulus Package meant that the project could be brought forward.

The $1.4m upgrade forms part of the ongoing renovation of Melbourne-Sydney-Brisbane rail corridor which, when complete, will cut down travel times from Melbourne to Sydney and Sydney to Brisbane by nearly 20%.

The Killawarra upgrade involved replacing an existing turnout and track realignment.

Australia's government announced a A$1.2bn investment last year to overhaul the country's rail infrastructure.
