Canada TTC Awards World’s Biggest Light Rail Contract to Bombardier

02 July 2009

Canadian Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) has awarded a $735m order to Canadian firm Bombardier to supply 204 light rail vehicles, the largest-ever single order for light rail vehicles.

The first prototype of the vehicle will arrive in 2011 and the whole order will be supplied between 2012 and 2018.

The vehicles, based on Bombardier's FLEXITY system, have 100% low-floor, light rail technology with improved capacity and interiors and will replace the city's existing fleet of vehicles.

Under the contract, an additional 400 vehicles could be ordered later as TTC plans to expand the existing light rail network with new 120km double-track lines.
