Norfolk to Overhaul Rail Signalling System for BHP

02 July 2009

Australian mining company BHP Billiton Iron Ore has awarded a $96.5m contract to Sydney's Norfolk Group to overhaul rail signalling for its Rapid Growth Project 5 in the Pilbara region.

Norfolk, through its subsidiary O'Donnell Griffin Rail, will renovate the current rail signalling installation from mine to port in 18 months.

The renovation is aimed at improving transit time from mine to port.

This contract award follows other recent contract wins such as the Novo Rail Railcorp Program Alliance and the ONTRACK electrification upgrade project in Wellington, New Zealand.
