29 June 2009

England's Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Executive Nexus has issued a number of contract tenders for work on phase two of its Metro Asset Renewal Plan (ARP).

The work includes station renovations, the upgrade of signalling and telecommunications, and permanent way and overhead line refurbishment and replacement, transportbriefing.co.uk reports.

The contract is planned for a period of three years with a possible two-year extension, with ARP's capital value set at £100m for the initial three years.

ARP is part of the £300m phase two of the Metro Reinvigoration Programme, expected to be completed between 2010 and 2019.
