The Egyptian Ministry of Transportation has awarded a $140m contract to Orascom Construction Industries (OCI) for civil, electromechanical and railway work on Phase II of new Cairo Metro Line III.

Under the agreement, OCI will jointly work with Vinci, Arab Contractors and Bouygues for $390m of civil work, with Colas Rail of France, Arab Contractors and Alstom for $140m electromechanical work and with Eurovia Travaux Ferroviaires for $24m of railway work.

The construction involves building a 7km railway track including 4km of underground tunnelling, which will connect five metro stations.

The project, expected to be completed during Q4 2013, will help passengers use the current Abassiya station to reach Al Ahram in Heliopolis through Cairo Fair, Cairo Stadium and the Women's College in Heliopolis.
