Amtrak Proposes Two New Stations in Virginia

24 June 2009

US railroad Amtrak has proposed a $20m project to build two new stations in Newport News in Virginia, US, for which the city is now bidding for federal grant.

Under the plan, the new stations will be located at Bland Boulevard near Interstate 64 and 30th Street and Warwick Boulevard.

The current Amtrak station, proposed to move downtown, will have high-speed trains running at up to 90 or 110mph, while the Bland Boulevard station will be "multimodal", accommodating the city's plan for light rail service to Newport News or Williamsburg International Airport.

The plan is yet to be approved by the government.
